James Portnow, game designer at Divide by Zero Games, has an editorial up on Gamasutra examining the definition of "casual games." The term has taken on a strange life of its own over the last few years, especially when a game like Braid wins the Interactive Achievement Award for "best casual game." How many within the industry would consider defining Braid as "casual"?

Consumer software purchasers continue to find value in their online options according to a new report from leading market research company, The NPD Group, with 76 percent of online purchasers in 2009 being repeat buyers. NPD’s A Landscape View of Online Software Purchasing 2009 report found that while those customers are increasingly comfortable acquiring their software virtually, (63 percent directly downloaded their purchase versus 60 percent the previous year), 59 percent of all buyers still opted to acquire the physical copy as well. In fact, more than one-third of virtual buyers hedged their download with a request for a physical copy as well.

* PreferencesIt extracts all the selectors from all the stylesheets on the page you're viewing, then analyzes that page to see which of those selectors are not used. The data is then stored so that when testing subsequent pages, selectors can be crossed off the list as they're encountered.
